Improvised double bass duets
Barre Phillips (double bass) Teppo Hauta-aho (double bass)
Live recording, 10th June 1998, at Kerava Juvenile Prison, Finland
"Although I am a pianist, my favourite instrument is the double bass. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest players around, either recording with them, or for them. The first legendary player I worked with, on my first trio album, was the late Jeff Clyne, a gifted player and true musician and gentlemen. As my musical world expanded into the classical sphere I met another magnificent player, David Heyes; he and I have subsequently worked on many projects. Through David I met and worked with Dan Styffe (another fine bassist) and they introduced me to the unique Teppo Hauta-aho, a living legend! I have recorded an album dedicated to Teppo ('Typically Teppo') and have grown to love his individual style. We have talked over the years on the phone and Teppo asked if he could send this live recording, featuring the mighty Barre Phillips, and release it. With a lot of help from Markku Salo this recording has made its way onto CD. I hope you enjoy the creative intimacy of this recording as much as I did (and still do) when I first heard it."
